Check out who's picked up the ball in Miramichi! These photos are from the weekend's Family Wellness Fair and last night's Rally Event. The Mango Wellness Network hosted these wellness events where local groups confirmed their commitment to wellness as part of this year's Join the Wellness Movement campaign in New Brunswick.

Premier David Alward rallies for wellness in Woodstock by participating in several dance activities with communities, schools and local organizations from across the Western Valley as they came together to celebrate the Wellness Movement on October 3rd.

The Acadian Peninsula dove into wellness with their Rally Event that took place on Monday October 3rd at three pools in the Peninsula; Tracadie-Sheila, Caraquet and Shippagan. Activities included free family swims, Aqua Zumba and healthy snacks and presentations encouraging more groups to join the Wellness Movement!

Minister of Wellness, Culture and Sport, Trevor Holder joins the Fundy Wellness Network and the Saint John YMCA to celebrate the wellness movement and the Rick Hansen Relay Team at a Rally Event held on Monday October 3rd. Wellness commitments were encouraged while enjoying a healthy barbeque and a Family Fitness Activity.

Minister Sue Stultz, and MLA Sherry Wilson, and Ministre Marie-Claude Blais were on hand at the YMCA of Greater Moncton to help celebrate Wellness Week and the Wellness Movement. Minister Stultz highlighted the importance of promoting Wellness for all New Brunswick residents, and underlined upcoming events for seniors. Wellness Ambassador, Aurélie Pará also spoke about how everyone can get involved by visiting www.wellnessnb.ca and registering a commitment to wellness.

The Grand Bay-Westfield Wellness Network invites Rick Hansen to make a commitment and Join the Wellness Movement at their Rally Event on Wednesday, Oct 5th! Three members of the network formed part of the Rick Hansen Relay Team that day. Participation at the Rally totalled 860 people including four schools and a preschool!

The Campbellton and Charlo communities got the ball rolling for wellness at the Rally Event on Monday October 3rd with an official opening of Wellness week, a Wellness Commitment ceremony and a Wellness Fair in the convention Center and Open House to sporting and recreational activities.

Minister of Health, Madeleine Dubé, joins MLA Danny Soucy and Edmundston Mayor Jacques Martin to celebrate the Wellness Movement and Wellness Week at a Rally Event held on Monday October 3rd. Wellness commitments were encouraged while taking a walk around Edmundston Golf Course and enjoying healthy snacks

The Fredericton in motion network rallies for Wellness at the Willie O’Ree Centre on October 3rd to celebrate the Wellness Movement with family activities including skating and Nordic walking.

To highlight Wellness Week, a Wellness Fair was organized on Friday October 7 at the Dr Georges L-Dumont University Hospital Centre. The 4 kiosks informed health care workers about the 4 wellness pillars: mental fitness and resilience, healthy eating, physical activity, and tobacco-free living. Personnel was invited to make a commitment to wellness. Nearly 200 employees participated!

After receiving the Ball from MLA Ryan Riordon, Synergies Chaleur organized an indoor softball event on October 14th. This successful activity was organized as part of the Join the Wellness Movement initiative. Upon completion of the activity, they took advantage of their Halloween costume party that on October 28th to pass the ball to the Bathurst Curling Club who will organize the Stothart Toyota Heart Smart Open Family Curling every Sunday from 4 to 6 pm. This weekly event encourages the community to come out and curl, giving the participants the opportunity to make a wellness commitment.

To celebrate Wellness Week, October 1-7th, 2011, as part of the Government of New Brunswick’s Live, work, play…be well Workplace Wellness Initiative, the Regional Wellness Committee for the Department of Social Development, launched a friendly competition amongst all employees within their department. The team with the highest number of hours of physical activity for the week came out the winner! In total, 9 teams out of 10 participated, a total of 75 employees. A bonus prize was given to Michèle Ouellette who appears in the photo with Marie-Josée LeBlanc, committee representative.  To win, participants had to participate in the “Vote my Fundy” Challenge and vote for the Bay of Fundy as one of the 7 wonders of the world. http://www.votemyfundy.com/

Participants in the after school program at Grande-Digue School and Minister Claude Williams Join the wellness movement! Students are featured participating in an aerobic activity to as part of their celebration of Wellness Week on October 3rd, 2011. Students made a Wellness Commitment to play outdoors more often over the next year.

As part of their Wellness Commitment, the District 8 RCMP team get in the game for wellness at a softball tournament organized by the Social Workers of NB during the week of September 5th to 9th, 2011.

The Carleton Mighty Chicks Hockey team have Joined the Wellness Movement and committed to skating 4 times per week in February, 2012. They are a PeeWee Hockey team playing hockey together for the first time this year. Many of the girls are playing hockey for the first time ever.

The Fundy Wellness Network picked up the ball and hosted a Families in motion Warm Up to Winterfest event on Sunday January 22nd in Saint John. Over 50 families attended and Joined the Wellness Movement. Photos include Minister Holder, Minister of Wellness, Culture and Sport and his family and Wellness Network members as they joined the festivities!

Last year’s grant winner, Harvey Elementary School joins the Wellness Movement with a school Wellness Week in partnership with the community from February 13th to the 17th, 2012. The week’s schedule included a focus on all 4 wellness pillars; mental fitness and resilience, healthy eating, physical activity and tobacco-free living. Bathurst celebrates the 2,611 participants that have joined the Wellness Movement in their region on March 11th with an open house family curling activity at the Bathurst Curling Club. Two Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, the Vitality Club of Bathurst High School, regional $1000 grant winner and Synergies Chaleur, secondary $500 community group grant winner were presented with their grant certificates by MLA Ryan Riordan.

Two Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, Lord Beaverbrook School, regional $1000 grant winner and Addiction Services, secondary $500 grant winner were presented with their grant certificates.

Fredericton celebrates the 84 community groups, schools and workplaces and 5,265 participants that have joined the Wellness Movement in their region on March 17th with an free family swim, nutrition presentation and wellness information kiosks at the Fredericton Indoor Pool. Two Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, the Keswick Valley Coyotes, regional $1000 grant winner and Park Street Elementary School, secondary $500 school grant winner were presented with their grant certificates by MLA Troy Lifford.

The South East region celebrates the 155 Wellness Commitments, 32,597 participants that have joined the Wellness Movement in their region on March 19th at École Ste-Bernadette with presentations by staff and students, a celebration of la fierté française, and tours of classrooms where physical activity is incorporated in all subjects! Three Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, Codiac Ultimate Inc., regional $1000 grant winner and Riverview Parks & Recreation Department and Lower Coverdale School, secondary $500 grant winners were presented with their grant certificates.

The Western Valley region celebrates the 150 Wellness Commitments and 12,265 participants that have joined the Wellness Movement at a Wellness Forum in their region on March 19th with guest speakers and a public dialogue on wellness. Two Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, Woodstock Centennial Elementary School, regional $1000 grant winner and Special Olympics Western Valley Region, secondary $500 grant winner were presented with their grant certificates by Premier Alward.

Miramichi celebrates the 95 Wellness Commitments and 5,355 participants that have joined the Wellness Movement at in their region on March 19th with physical activities with students, teachers, parents and winners at Ian Baillie School. Three Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, Nelson Rural School, regional $1000 grant winner and Miramichi Whitecaps Swim Team and NBYC Miramichi, secondary $500 grant winners, were presented with their grant certificates.

The Edmundston/Grand Falls region celebrates the 105 Wellness Commitments and 9,658 participants that have joined the Wellness Movement in their region on March 24th with a Vivez-mieux flash mob parade, zumba, pilates, indoor climbing and more! Three Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, the Department of Social Development (Edmundston/Grand Falls branch), regional $1000 grant winner and l’École Régionale-de-Saint-André and l’Hôpital Régional d’Edmundston, secondary $500 grant winners, were presented with their grant certificates.

Join the Wellness Movement in Fundy!! The Fundy region celebrates the 165 Wellness Commitments and 17,648 participants that made Wellness Commitments on March 24th with a Wellness Forum. Four Join the Wellness Movement grant winners, Saint Rose School and Hearts in motion Walking Club, regional $1000 grant winners and Preventative Action for Community Kids (PACK) and Crosby Molasses Co. Inc., secondary $500 grant winners, were presented with their grant certificates.
