The Seniors & Kids Intergenerational Program (SKIP) Cooking Club is a volunteer-led 6-week initiative that was adapted from the “Chefs!” Toolkit, published by the Government of New Brunswick. The SKIP toolkit was developed to assist any individual, be they a formal, community coordinator or a senior volunteer interested in starting the program in their area. It is a comprehensive source of information ranging from the technical requirements (forms, suggested kitchen layout, checklists, materials needed, kitchen safety information, etc.) to activity ideas, games and suggested healthy recipes. The program has been going on in the Saint John area between elementary schools and seniors homes for some time now and has seen good success in building positive, significant relationships between seniors and youth.
